The last admission is at 4pm.

I would advise coming around 2pm and walking around seaport village and the park with the giant statue of the navy sailor and girl. Then around 3:30 visit the museum, and finish it off with diner next door at the fish market.

The San Diego USS Midway History

Construction on the Midway began in 1943 and was finished in 1945. This huge aircraft carrier was the first ever US Navy ship to be too large for the panama canal. The carrier was active in two wars, the Vietnam War and in the Desert Storm. While these were the only two official wars that it engaged in, san diego's USS midway stationed across the world. Whether it was protecting the civilians in Japan during times of unrest or whether it was cruising the Mediterranean, the ship was always on the move. The Midway retired in 2001 and officially the museum was open in 2004.

Parking is fairly simple but can cost you. There is a large parking lot adjacent but make sure to bring quarters. Meters are free on Sundays and holidays. You also can just take a ferry to the USS midway from Coronado. I really like this option if you are staying in coronado.

There are great places to stay near the Midway. Hotels range from beautiful boutique hotels, to Hotel Del, or even local bed and breakfast motels.
